Position Description:

The Jiang Laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher. The post-doctoral scholar would perform research in human cognitive neuroscience under the direct supervision of Dr. Jing Jiang. Specific topics will be organized in accordance with the applicants’ interests and expertise. Specific areas of interest are in either determining causal neural circuits relevant to social and emotional deficits and treatment effects using brain lesion or brain stimulation (TMS, DBS) method in neurological / neuropsychiatric populations, or identifying neuromarkers of social and emotional skills acquisition during typical and atypical development using brain imaging (fNIRS, fMRI) method in infants or children.

The Jiang lab is situated in the Departments of Pediatrics, Neurology, Psychiatry, Psychological and Brain Sciences, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Iowa, the Iowa Neuroscience Institute, and the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center. The lab has space in the main hospital campus. It is equipped with fNIRS, EEG, TMS systems, as well as with access to the University of Iowa’s cutting-edge imaging facility (see details here ), and the world-renowned Iowa Cognitive Neuroscience Patient Registry, or the ‘Lesion Registry,’ which includes data from over 3500 participants with imaging and neuropsychological testing. Moreover, Dr. Jiang maintains active collaborations with the Neuropsychology Group in the Department of Neurology and faculty from the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences.

Education Requirement:

  • PhD or MD/PhD degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or a related field

Required Qualifications:

  • Existing track record of peer-reviewed scientific journal publications in the domain of human neuroscience

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of a scientific programming language (preferable MATLAB and/or Python)

  • Experienced in analyzing and interpreting data from one or several of the following human neuroscience techniques: fNIRS, fMRI, iEEG, TMS, intracranial electrical stimulation, brain lesion, etc.

  • Able to work and learn independently and motivated to contribute to the wider research mission of the lab

  • Well-organized and able to coordinate an interact with a team of other post-doctoral scholars, graduate students, research assistants, undergraduates, and intra- and extramural collaborators
