Position Description:

This postdoctoral scholar position will work on data analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing for projects related to global sexual, reproductive, maternal, and child health. Data analysis and manuscript preparation will focus on NIH- and foundation-funded projects based in Kenya and India. The projects in Kenya are focused on HIV-related stigma among youth in western Kenya, and a sexual and reproductive health intervention for youth and their parents (also in western Kenya). The project in India is focused on intimate partner violence among married couples in the peri-urban areas around Bangalore. Grant writing will build on these three projects as well as a perinatal mental health screening intervention in peri-urban India. The postdoctoral scholar will work closely with the Principal Investigator of these projects, Dr. William Story , as well as his collaborators in Kenya and India. There may also be opportunities to explore research in Iowa with refugee and immigrant communities. In addition to these tasks, some day-to-day project coordination with graduate and undergraduate students will also be required.


This is an in-person position based in Iowa City, IA. The scholar will be expected to work at least 2 days per week in the office. The candidate will be mentored by the PI and will have the opportunity to lead and co-author manuscripts and conference presentations. The scholar will be expected to spend 75 percent of their time on project activities and 25 percent on independent research on related topics.

Education Requirement:

A PhD in public health or a related field.

Required Qualifications:

Proficient in the Stata software package for data management, statistical analysis, graphics, and reproducible reporting.


Demonstrated ability to prepare manuscripts, reports, and other documents of a technical and scientific nature.


Good verbal and written communication skills.


Eligible to work in the United States.

Desirable Qualifications:

Ability to analyze qualitative data using Dedoose (or another qualitative software) is desirable.


Supervisory experience is desirable.


Experience with grant writing is desirable.
