The Yao Laboratory is interested in understanding how laminin, a major component of the basal lamina, regulates blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity under both physiological and pathological conditions. Stroke and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are used as disease models to study laminin’s functions in pathological conditions. The candidates will have opportunities to collaborate with others and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. The candidates will be expected to write manuscripts for publications and present research progress in scientific meetings. The candidates will also be encouraged to apply for fellowships and grants. 

Job Duties:

  • Investigate laminin turnover in the CNS in a cell-specific manner using innovative laminin reporter mouse lines.
  • Explore the function of laminin in brain development and BBB maintenance under physiological conditions using cell-specific laminin conditional knockout mouse lines.
  • Study how laminin affects the pathogenesis and progression of stroke and AD using these conditional knockout mice.
  • Develop innovative therapeutics for stroke and AD by targeting laminin and/or its downstream signaling molecules.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree from an accredited institution and appropriate experience and training within a selected area of specialization. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Postdoctoral Fellow. 

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in Neuroscience or related biomedical field. Candidates with good publication records, high motivation for research, excellent work ethics, strong communication skills, and scientific writing ability will be given preference. Research experience in rodent stroke & AD models, vascular biology, neurobiology, RNA steganalysis, primary cell culture, confocal imaging, and molecular biology are strongly preferred.
