Title Postdoctoral Scholar / Research Associate in Applied Physics
School Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
Department/Area Applied Physics
Position Description
A postdoctoral scholar or Research Associate, depending on prior experience, is sought to investigate:  (a) strong light-matter interaction effects in layered two-dimensional crystalline materials, such as hBN, MoO3, van der Waals materials among others, coupled to metasurface/metamaterial cavities (‘meta-cavities’) electromagnetic fields; (b) the modifications in the physical properties of the materials produced by the strong coupling to meta-cavity vacuum fields; and  © the physics of these changes via measurements of the optical, thermal and transport properties and demonstration of proof-of-concept device functionalities.  SEAS is dedicated to building a diverse and welcoming community and we strongly encourage applications from historically underrepresented groups. The successful candidate will conduct research in the Capasso group: https://capasso.seas.harvard.edu/ .

Ph.D. in physics, applied physics or EE
Additional Qualifications
Previous experience in Terahertz and mid-IR photonics, including  knowledge of EM simulations and design,  numerical optimization, nanofabrication and testing  of passive and active devices based on semiconductors/2D materials/ metasurfaces.  Expertise  in  designing novel cavities and antennas and cryogenic temperature experience e.g., optical measurements at low temperatures including FTIR and time domain THz spectroscopy are  desirable
