JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Neuroethics Lab at The Pennsylvania State University, led by Prof. Laura Y. Cabrera, is seeking a qualified Postdoctoral Scholar. The Postdoctoral Scholar will work on one or two projects that utilize social science methods to study ethical, social, cultural, and policy implications of neurotechnology and/or advances in neuroscience. Other responsibilities will include helping the Principal Investigator (PI) to secure external grants, applying for independent fellowships, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in the lab, and writing manuscripts. The Postdoctoral Scholar will be able to participate fully in the life of the lab, as well as in the Center for Neural Engineering . The successful candidate will have full access to the intellectual resources of the Penn State community.
Qualifications:
Terminal degree in a relevant field, such as bioethics, sociology, public health, or public policy, by the appointment start date. PhD degree is preferred; however, JDs and MDs with relevant experience and/or training will be considered.
Experience conducting qualitative and/or quantitative empirical research (i.e., interviews and/or surveys).
Excellent writing and communications skills.
The successful candidate should have a background and/or career interest in neuroethics or a related field, including bioethics, philosophy of technology, philosophy of science, biomedical ethics, engineering ethics, or responsible innovation. Candidates should be independently motivated, creative, and have a desire to learn new analysis techniques and approaches. We are looking for a team player to work within a highly multidisciplinary group of scientists, social science, and engineers. A record of publication in a relevant field, such as neuroethics, sociology, bioethics, and STS, is preferred.
Additional Information:
This is a term appointment, funded for one year from date of hire, with a possibility of renewal contingent upon funding. This position will require successful completion of standard background checks.
