JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA is seeking a Post-doctoral Scholar to work on NIH-funded projects involving the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for prediction modeling in the field of COVID-19 and Diabetes. The position focuses on working within a large research team to determine the incidence and risk factors for new-onset diabetes after COVID-19 infection by mining electronic health record (EHR) data from large multi-resolution datasets. The position will work with the team in utilizing machine learning algorithms and AI to assess the predictive value of diabetes risk factors and other patient data. This study is being led by Dr. Nazia Raja-Khan in the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology & Diabetes.

The successful candidate will have strong research experience, as well as experience working in multidisciplinary teams, good writing skills, and solid knowledge of statistics and various AI tools, especially pertinent to EHR data analysis and structured data in general.

The following education and work experience are required:

  • A Ph.D. in mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, or a related field with a minimum of two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Machine Learning algorithms and various packages
  • Expertise in at least one programming language for data mining
  • Experience in working with structured data and preferably, in the form of EHR data
  • Have at least two first-author and four co-author publications

The postdoctoral scholar will be expected to author publications resulting from his/her research, and will be co-mentored by clinician scientists and data scientists. He/she will be encouraged and supported in initiating and developing independent lines of inquiry as well.
