JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University (University Park, PA) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar. A successful candidate should have a strong background in metallurgy, micromechanics, and microstructural characterization. The candidate should possess demonstrated abilities to work independently, publish, and organize research projects.  

The candidate is expected to: perform characterization of additively manufactured metallic materials, to include microstructural and mechanical property characterization as well as finite element analysis simulations. Microstructural characterizations are expected to include: scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, electron backscatter diffraction, x-ray computed tomography, all with associated critical data analysis. Mechanical property evaluation is expected to include: uniaxial mechanical testing, multiaxial mechanical testing, hardness measurements, all with associated critical data analysis. Additionally, it is expected that the candidate will synthesize the data to prepare manuscripts to be submitted for peer-reviewed publication. 

The position is based in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, working under the supervision of Professor Allison Beese.  

It is expected that applicants will have completed a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field by the start of the position. Funding is available for one year from date of hire with possibility for renewal.
