JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Anthroengineering Lab , led by Dr. Jennifer Wagner, is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar. This multidisciplinary lab is affiliated with Penn State’s Law, Policy, and Engineering initiative and situated within the School of Engineering Design and Innovation, providing the Postdoctoral Scholar with a world-class research environment and extensive interdisciplinary professional development opportunities. The successful candidate will contribute to the BLAST project (“Bioethical, Legal, and Anthropological Study of Technologies”), which will involve the study of bioprinting, bionic devices, and medical robotic technologies.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing literature reviews.

  • Conducting interview-based and internet-based research.

  • Conducting or contributing to legal and policy research.

  • Assisting with administrative tasks (including IRB correspondence, progress reporting, etc.).

  • Preparing manuscripts and presentations.

  • Contributing to the design of new studies.

  • Preparing research grant proposals to establish new and innovative research directions.

Applicants must have a J.D. or a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in biomedical engineering, engineering design, anthropology, bioethics, science and technology studies (STS), information sciences and technology (IST), critical data studies, biomedical sciences, or a closely related field by the start date. The Postdoctoral Scholar must be self-motivated and work effectively both independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated productivity (e.g., peer-review publication record and scientific conference presentations) and excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management, and communication skills are required. The successful candidate will also have experience with empirical research (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods) and be proficient with statistical analysis. Familiarity or experience with normative research is preferred.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will have an expected start date in January 2024. This is a term appointment, funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of renewal depending on satisfactory performance and project funding.
