JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Pennsylvania State University, University Park Campus invites applications for an appointment as a Post-Doctoral Scholar as part of NSF funded projects: “Simulation and theory of lightning initiation in low thundercloud fields” and “A theoretical framework for photoionization and photodetachment rate calculations in the lower ionosphere.” 

A Ph.D., strong programming skills, and experience with development of numerical models in topical areas relevant to gas discharge physics and atmospheric and space electricity are required.

The successful applicant must have the ability to work independently. They will be involved in supervision of research of undergraduate and graduate students, and will be expected to document the research results in refereed journal publications and to present them at seminars and conferences.

This is a limited-term appointment for one year from date of hire with a possibility of renewal for one additional year depending on performance and availability of funding.
