Job Description

Wildfires have grown in number and intensity in the recent years with multi-faceted impacts on the social fabrics of our communities. Understanding societal impacts of wildfires requires research at the intersection of engineering, physical, natural, and social sciences.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Department of Information Systems from the College of Business at the University of Nevada, Reno are hiring for a full-time, Postdoctoral Scholar with an engineering background, sufficient knowledge of statistics and empirical studies, and research experience in the social and economic dimensions of natural hazards. The postdoctoral scholar will join a large cross-disciplinary team and will have the opportunity to work on an NSF-funded project along with faculties, research staff, and graduate students from different disciplines.

The anticipated start date is flexible and can be as soon as January 1, 2023. Primary responsibilities will include leading fundamental and independent but collaborative research on social impacts of wildfires, disseminating research outcomes through journal and conference publications, and contributing to grant writing and funding acquisition. This is a one-year assignment that may be extended contingent to funding availability.

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or any other related fields with research experience in social dimensions of natural hazards by time of appointment.

  • The doctoral degree must have been completed within the five years immediately preceding the first date of appointment as a postdoctoral fellow at the University.

  • The individual cannot have held previous positions in the professional ranks.
