Position Description:

  • The postdoctoral research scholar position provides an opportunity to join an existing team conducting translational research assessing the impact of microbial actions on cardiac health. The scholar will work primarily with Dr. Ajit Vikram. The scholar will analyze data from existing projects, develop manuscripts to submit to leading journals, develop grant proposals, and actively participate in current and future research.

  • The postdoctoral candidate’s specific project-related responsibilities will be developed in consultation with Dr. Gaddam. They may include project management, data collection, development of research hypotheses, analytic strategies, scholar-initiated analysis, and projects related to the lab’s core projects.

  • The postdoctoral position is a one-year full-time appointment. Depending on the fellow’s initiative, lab support, publication record, and available funding, reappointment for additional years is possible.

  • The successful candidate is expected to qualify for training grants and fellowships and to further our understanding of the relationship between diet, various lifestyle factors, and brain health.

  • The position will also allow the trainee to develop grant proposals within the broader area of the lab focus.

Education Requirement:

  • Candidates with a Ph.D. degree (or about to complete one) in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field are required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting cell-based and small animal research and a willingness to acquire new complementary skills.

  • Applicants should be passionate about conducting scientific research on the connection between microbiome actions and cardiovascular health.

  • The applicant must be able to contribute effectively to the success of the research lab and develop and propose relevant research questions related to the lab's core mission. Excellent attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and good communication and organizational skills are essential to success in this position.

  • The postdoctoral scholar is expected to have excellent interpersonal skills, writing skills, and the ability to work effectively with other laboratory members.

  • In addition, the scholar is expected to design, propose, execute, and interpret approved experiments that support the lab's mission.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in transaortic constriction survival surgeries in mice, antibiotics-induced microbial dysbiosis, and experience with the pressure-volume loop assessment is highly desired.
