Description

 

This is a full-time, five days per week, appointment as Postdoctoral Trainee within the Departments of Bioscience Research. This appointment will be effective when qualified personnel is identified, and the position is renewable on an annual basis. 

This position is responsible for performing basic research in a laboratory setting; Experimental techniques include but not limited to:

  • Performing independent experimental work including experimental design, execution, trouble shooting, data organization, analysis, and manuscript preparation for publication. 
  • Participate in research focusing on the studies of stem cells and regenerative medicine.
  • Engage in experimental techniques which will include tissue cultures, adult stem cell isolation and maintenance, growth of human embryonic stem cells, reprogrammed pluripotent stem cells, cell differentiation studies, signal transduction regulation, RNA/DNA isolation, qPCR, ELISA assays, immunostaining, fluorescence staining, histology staining, flow cytometry epigenetic studies, cell transduction, microarray concept, basic confocal microscopy, and photomicrographs.
  • Execute biochemical procedures such as electrophoresis, blotting, staining.
  • Organize and analyze data, ImageJ, photophop, SPSS, SAS, and other computer software applications; and prepare manuscript(s) for publication.
  • Perform advanced laboratory research activities such as animal surgery for tissue regeneration studies, recombinant DNA
  • Techniques, protein purification, and hybridizations.
  • May perform administrative duties such as: training and guiding students and/or other laboratory technicians; assisting in developing policies, procedures and/or methods for laboratory experimentation, and ordering supplies.

    Qualifications

     

    Qualifications

    PhD's degree or the equivalent in Biology, Chemistry and/or related field.

    Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience, and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

    • Skill in statistical interpretation and data analysis using SPSS, SAS and other computer software applications.
    • Skill in animal care and handling.

    • Ability to use a consultative approach to resolve issues in area of responsibility.

    INTERMEDIATE

    • Ability to perform research in a laboratory setting working with independence for all routine procedures.
    • Ability to lead certain research activities and perform various advanced procedures.
    • Skill in programming statistical and data analysis systems using SPSS, SAS, and other computer software applications.
    • Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and dismantle and repair equipment.
    • Develops policies, procedures, and introduces changes as necessary.
    • Provides guidance and training to laboratory personnel and students.
    • Ability to participate in the design of research studies and preparation of technical procedures and reports.
