Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Marylanders Online (https://marylandersonline.umd.edu/ ) team is seeking a postdoctoral
researcher starting in January 2024, focused broadly on issues ofdigital equity and digital literacy.
The Postdoctoral researcher will work on a state-funded project, Marylanders Online, which is a
collaborative project between the University of Maryland Extension (UME) and College of
Information Studies (INFO). The postdoctoral researcher will design studies, collect and
analyzedata, and implement research-based solutions to sustainably educate Marylanders in digital literacy skills for work, learning, and essential everyday needs. The postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to advance their research agenda through formal and informal training and extensive collaboration with researchers at INFO and UME, and UMD in general. The researcher is expected to interface with the entire project team on an ongoing basis and to coordinate with other project partners.In collaboration with the Marylanders Online team, the selected researcher will write grant proposals to further this work, publish peer-reviewed and practitioner-focused articles, and be involved in the development of Maryland’s digital equity blueprint. The postdoctoral researcher will work with a team that uses a wide range of research methods (e.g., focus groups, surveys, co-design) to support development and implementation of digital literacy education and research in the state of Maryland.
The postdoctoral researcher will receive support and mentoring as they build their own research in
the broad areas of digital literacy. In addition to working with the Marylanders Online project, the
researcher will participate in the intellectual life of the UMD INFO College and UME and will be
encouraged to seek out opportunities for interdisciplinary research collaboration across the College, other units of the University, and potentially including an array of community partners from the state of Maryland.
Ideal applicants will have a background in information science, education, digital media, public
policy, geographic information systems, smart cities, and/or other related fields. Background in
digital literacy and digital equity is preferred. Candidates will have experience with either qualitative or quantitative methods of inquiry. Candidates should be comfortable working with large datasets. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated success working on teams and an understanding of digital equity frameworks for research in service of practice.

Candidates should have defended their dissertation by December 2023. The postdoctoral researcher is a full-time position available for a fixed term of one year, from January 2024 to December 2024.
The postdoctoral researcher will work as part of the Marylanders Online team under the guidance of Dr. Mega Subramaniam at INFO and will be conducting the above-mentioned duties on-site in
Maryland.
