Position Overview

A postdoctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Ryan S. Funk in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Kansas Medical Center.  The selected candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research investigating the clinical pharmacology of protein-based and small-molecule therapeutics used in the treatment of autoimmune disease.  Research techniques will include both pre-clinical and clinical research methodologies, including: mammalian cell culture, molecular pharmacology, protein chemistry, enzyme immunoassay, bioanalytical assay development, blood sample processing and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic analysis.  The selected candidate will be given the opportunity to present their findings at relevant scientific meetings, and will contribute to the training and development of undergraduate and graduate students.

DURATION: Initial limited-term appointment of 12 months with a 12-month extension upon satisfactory performance.

Job Description

75% - Plan, coordinate, conduct and publish research in the area of experimental and clinical pharmacology.

10% - Laboratory management responsibilities, including: equipment maintenance, ordering of supplies, compliance with laboratory safety protocols.
10% - Assist in the training and professional development of undergraduate and graduate level researchers.
5% - Attend and participate in scientific group meetings and seminars.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Pharm.D. with research training in pharmaceutical sciences.

  • NOTE

    : To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, it is necessary to have the Ph.D. or Pharm.D. in hand. Appointments made without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires and are appointed on an interim basis not to exceed 6-months.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • A record of research accomplishment as reflected in publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific meetings. 
  • Experience working with cell culture models, animal models, human subjects research, and bioanalytical techniques for pharmaceutical analysis.
