Position Overview

The goal of the Lamb lab is to provide a fundamental understanding of the enzymes of biosynthetic pathways that are used by bacterial pathogens for survival and colonization, especially in pathogens that are becoming increasingly antibiotic resistant.  This crucial basic science knowledge can then be exploited in the generation of new antimicrobial therapeutics.  The work is a combination of structural biology and mechanistic enzymology.


Job Description

75% Research
Develops a specialized research plan and conducts rigorous and reproducible experiments.  Designs experimental methods and analyzes data, including steady state and pre-steady state enzyme kinetics and protein crystallography.  Develops protocols for methods to be used by staff.  Consults with lead investigators and collaborators.  Suggests improvements on experimental and research design.
20% Scholarship
Assists PI in the writing and submission of research proposals.  With assistance of PI, writes and edits manuscripts of research articles and other scholarly publications.  Gives oral and poster presentations at conferences.  Presents seminars on research.  Participates in weekly laboratory meetings, presenting data.
5% Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Biochemistry (or related field)
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication as evidenced by CV, application materials and interview process.
  • NOTE

    : To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, it is necessary to have the PhD in hand. Appointments made without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires and are appointed on an acting basis not to exceed six months. Upon verification of degree the appointment will be extended to its full duration.


    Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability with enzyme preparation for biochemical and biophysical characterization, including development of over production protocols and enzyme purification
  • Demonstrated ability with steady state and pre-steady state kinetic methodologies, including stopped flow experience and global modeling
  • Demonstrated ability with protein crystallography, including crystal growth, x-ray diffraction, phasing methods such as molecular replacement and multiwavelength anomalous dispersion, model refinement and figure production
