Position Overview

The Smith Lab in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology at the University of Kansas is seeking outstanding, driven applicants for postdoctoral positions in neuroscience.
The Smith Lab studies the neurocircuitry of social behavior and cognition. We are particularly interested in limbic and cortical systems which promote context-appropriate behaviors and maintain bonds in socially monogamous relationships, utilizing the prairie vole (Microtus ochrogaster). We study the structural and functional connectivity of neural networks using single channel and multi-channel calcium imaging, viral and fluorescent neuronal tracing, microdialysis optogenetics/chemogenetics, animal behavior, and histological methods in neuroscience.
As we are a behavioral neuroscience lab, we are especially interested in candidates with experience in calcium imaging from populations of neurons in awake behaving animals; however, candidates with a background in engineering, physics, neuroethology, or ethology are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must either have a Ph.D. or be nearing the completion of their doctorate in a relevant field.

This position is limited term with a typical duration of 1-5 years.
