Position Overview
The University of Kansas, Lawrence, is hiring for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on cancer drug discovery. The successful candidate will participate in the research projects currently underway in Dr. Liang Xu’s laboratory including, but not limited to, cancer drug discovery and chemical biology studies. We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual with in-depth knowledge and extensive skills in cancer biology, chemical biology and drug discovery to join Xu laboratory focused on molecular cancer therapeutics and mechanism of action of novel precision cancer medicine. Job Description
80% - Responsible for performance of laboratory research in the area of cancer drug discovery. To establish and maintain laboratory experiments using basic cell biology and molecular biology skills. Specific duties may involve (1) tissue culture, flow cytometry, Western blot, and (2) small animal studies with different tumor models, (3) gene transfection and PCR technique. (4) biochemical assays to test small molecule compounds.
10% - Maintain certain laboratory equipment and record keeping. Train other lab personnel on the proper use and care of specialized equipment, provide general assistance to other lab personnel. Oversees daily operations of research setting and may supervise students or staff.
5% - Literature searches and analysis of published data. Generation and review of experimental documentation including report generation, daily recording of experimental procedures and results generated by the individual in laboratory notebooks, as well as editing and preparation of manuscripts and grant applications.
5% - Assure compliance with safety programs. Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Position is located on-site at the Lawrence campus.
Required Qualifications
Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in CV, and (3) information provided from professional references:
1. Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology or closely related field with educational background in cancer biology. Experience with cell biology, animal tumor models, cancer therapeutics, data collection and analysis.
2. Publications related to molecular and cellular biology or cancer biology.
3. Experience working effectively in a team environment, as demonstrated in application materials.
NOTE: To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, it is necessary to have the PhD in hand. Appointments made without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires and are appointed on an acting basis not to exceed six months. Upon verifications of degree the appointment will be extended to its full duration.
