Position Overview

The Postdoctoral Researcher is expected to work on the development of adaptive high-order methods, including GPU implementation and scalable time integration schemes, fluid-structure interactions, and coupling of computational fluid dynamics and flight dynamics, and other areas of mutual interest.

Applications for postdoctoral researchers will be reviewed for consideration for a one-year research position (with possible extension based on performance and availability of funding). Ideal candidates are expected to have in-depth expertise in one or more of the areas below:
1.             Adaptive high-order methods (discontinuous Galerkin/spectral difference/flux reconstruction methods)
2.             GPU-computing
3.             Fluid-structure interactions

Job Description

50% - Develop adaptive high-order methods, including GPU implementation, time integration schemes, and capabilities to enable fluid-structure interactions.

35% - Perform large eddy simulations of CFD and coupled CFD and flight dynamics simulations.

10% - Assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate research assistants.

5% - Help develop externally funded research programs.

Required Qualifications

Candidates will be evaluated on the candidate’s research experience and communication skills, as evidenced by (i) a resume and cover letter, (ii) prior research publications and/or patent applications, (iii) references, and (iv) interview by videoconference.

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated coding skills with programming languages like C++, C, and Fortran
  • NOTE:

To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, it is necessary to have the PhD conferred at the time of hire. Appointments made without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires and are appointed on an interim basis not to exceed 6-months. Upon verification of degree the appointment will be extended to its full duration.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Substantial experience developing and implementing adaptive high-order CFD methods on CPU and GPU clusters.
  • Experience in mentoring other researchers (typically at the undergraduate or master’s level).
  • Novel research proposal development, presentation, and execution, including evaluating and summarizing the state-of-the-art in a particular area.
