Position Overview

The Zhao lab at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy ( ) is currently seeking a highly-motivated postdoctoral researcher to work on projects that investigate the bioenergetic mechanisms and interventions of brain aging and late-onset Alzheimer’s disease. This position is for a limited term. The initial 1-year appointment is renewable based on availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward research goals.
The KU School of Pharmacy, located in the heart of the beautiful and historic Lawrence campus, offers an excellent research environment, and has been consecutively ranked nationally among the top 5 in NIH funding since 2001. Moreover, the KU Alzheimer’s Disease Center (ADC), one of only 29 NIA-designated and funded ADCs in the US, provides additional substantial resources for the pursuit of excellence in AD research and care.

Job Description

80% - Performs research activities independently and generates research reports for preparation of scientific publications or grant applications to funding organizations

10% - Provides mentorship to other lab members, including supervision and training of graduate and undergraduate researchers

10% - Contributes to the daily operations of the lab, and assures compliance with safety programs. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. with research training in neuroscience or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated productivity and scientific communication skills
  • NOTE:  To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, it is necessary to have the PhD in hand.  Appointments made without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires and are appointed on an acting basis not to exceed six months.  Upon verification of degree the appointment will be extended to its full duration.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive research experience in molecular and synaptic biology
  • First-author publications or other evidence of scholarly achievement
