The Postdoctoral Researcher will primarily work on an NSF grant-funded collaborative project focused on the development of an intelligent authoring platform and various game-based scenarios for teaching research methods at the undergraduate level. This project involves working with Co-PIs across four institutions. The Postdoctoral Researcher interested in teaching will have opportunities to give guest lectures or teach courses. The Postdoctoral Researcher will have the responsibility of the day-to-day mentoring of students on projects in the Decision Making, Advice, Automation, and Games (DAA'nG) Lab at UHCL.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with postdoc mentor to complete NSF grant-related work. This work includes setting up research studies, running participants, attending weekly grant meetings with co-PIs, and creating game-based learning experiences.
  • Analyze data from research experiments run in the lab and assist in writing manuscripts for papers from those data analyses.
  • Coordinate efforts of graduate and undergraduate working on lab projects. Provide guidance on projects and assists in training necessary skills for lab-related work.
  • Collaborate on designing new, non-grant related, research projects for the lab, including exploring topics of their own interest.
  • Collaborate in grant-writing efforts and perform related duties as assigned.

Note: This position is grant funded and continuation is contingent upon future funding.

 

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • Doctoral degree.
  • Experience with research methods, conducting research, and statistics.
  • Knowledge of research methods, experimental design, research ethics, and statistics.
  • Knowledge of serious games or simulations in any area and of qualitative data analysis.
  • Ability to write manuscripts for publication in academic journals or conference proceedings.
  • Data analysis skills using statistical analyses appropriate to the field.
  • Ability to program in any programming language.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and to balance time as well as to find novel solutions to research questions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals of varied skill levels and to present research findings to multiple audiences. 
  • Desired:

    Doctoral degree in Cognitive Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Human Factors, Game Design, Decision Sciences or a related field.
