The Department of Information, Risk, and Operations Management (IROM) at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a postdoctoral (research associate) position, starting Fall 2024.

We invite applications from multiple areas of study, including Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, and Data Science.

The position focuses on exciting AI research challenges to advance Human-AI collaboration to enhance high-stake decisions.  The research is in collaboration with a leading university-based Transplant Center, and aims to simultaneously advance AI and benefit human-AI collaboration for high-stake decision-making.

Successful candidates will join a team of faculty and Ph.D. students, enjoy mentorship opportunities, gain unique access to and collaboration with professionals performing life-saving, high-stake decision-making, and join a vibrant AI research community at the University of Texas at Austin, become members of The University of Texas at Austin’s Machine Learning Laboratory (https://ml.utexas.edu/ ) , and contribute to The University of Texas’ at Austin’s Use-Inspired AI cluster, which serves as an interdisciplinary research platform for use-inspired AI research on the UT Austin campus. We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in a relevant field of research, with strong and relevant research record and interest in use-inspired AI research, demonstrated research independence, along with an ability and interest to serve in a central role within an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for be a key member of the research team, responsible for coordinating and conducting research, as well as mentoring Ph.D. students. The research aims to  advance AI inspired by contexts of Human-AI collaboration to improve high-stake decisions.


Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. research related to use-inspired in machine learning and AI. Ph.D. must have been received within three years from date of hire.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest and expertise in Human-AI collaboration for decision making

  • Demonstrated research independence, along with an ability and interest to work and lead an interdisciplinary research team  towards cutting edge and impactful use-inspired AI research.


Salary Range

  • $65,000


Working Conditions

  • This is a grant-funded position and reassignment will be based on performance, progress toward research goals and continuation of funding.

  • This position is Austin, TX-based and is eligible for occasional telework and flexible scheduling.

  • Standard office conditions and repetitive use of a keyboard

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
