Job Description

Purpose:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to advance the development of novel computing algorithms co-optimized for post-CMOS analog computing systems (non-volatile memory or memristor arrays).

Responsibilities:

  • Advance development of novel computing algorithms co-optimized for post-CMOS analog computing systems (non-volatile memory or memristor arrays).
  • Development of post-backpropagation learning algorithms such as the forward learning, target propagation, equilibrium propagation, etc. that are compatible with memristor arrays
  • Writing of results into publications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What we need:

  • Doctoral Degree

What is helpful:

  • Doctoral degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, artificial intelligence, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with artificial neural network design using MATLAB or specialized frameworks such as PyTorch, Caffe, TensorFlow, etc
  • Experience in developing novel algorithms for neural network learning (e.g., acquisition of the gradient of the objective function other than backpropagation) using standard datasets (e.g., MNIST and CIFAR-10).
  • Familiarity with computing systems based on post-CMOS devices, such as memristors, resistive-RAM, or other non-volatile memories.
  • A record of publications in peer-reviewed conferences/journals, patents, or any similar demonstrated public impact.
  • Strong background in artificial neural network learning algorithms.
  • Familiarity with analog memristor array-based computing systems.

About Electrical and Computer Engineering:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University leads advanced research in several important national and global areas for the betterment of humanity. Areas of research include power and power electronics, information systems, computer architecture, analog and mixed signals circuits, biomedical imaging, and photonics and semiconductors, with ML/AI infused in several of these research areas. Situated conveniently in the hub of the Dallas–Austin–Houston technology triangle, the department collaborates closely with key players in healthcare, computing, telecommunications, energy, and semiconductor manufacturing sectors. It also benefits from its proximity to and engagement with the Army Futures Command and the facilities and test-beds available at the Texas A&M System’s RELLIS Campus. With strong support from Texas' robust manufacturing sector and its economy, the department has numerous opportunities to engage in exciting interdisciplinary research partnerships that are shaping the future educational and research landscapes. These partnerships include collaborations and engagement with the Texas A&M Data Science Institute, the Global Cyber Research Institute, the Texas A&M Energy Institute, and the Smart Grid Center.
