The Center for Cancer Research (CCR), in the National Cancer Institute (NCI) invites applications for a Postdoctoral position in the Laboratory of Receptor Biology and Gene Expression, located in Bethesda, Maryland. The candidate will be trained under the leadership of Shalini Oberdoerffer, Ph.D. The Oberdoerffer group explores how RNA epigenetics dynamically regulates post-transcriptional mRNA fate, and whether these properties can be harnessed for therapeutic purposes. Building on recent observations that a single epitranscriptomic modification promotes or represses mRNA translation in a position-dependent manner (Arango et al., Cell, 2018; Arango et al., Molecular Cell, 2022), they use a variety of tools to investigate the enzymatic regulation of mRNA modifications and the net impact at target genes and genome-wide. Current efforts are focused on developing physiologically relevant model systems that interrogate how the epitranscriptome is modulated in response to environmental cues to dynamically regulate cellular proteomes, with a particular focus on cancers of the immune system. Anticipated methodologies include RNA-sequencing, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry and analysis of transgenic mouse models.

The candidate will join an integrated team of bench and computational scientists with common research interests. While candidates with a wide range of expertise will be considered, applicants with a background in nucleic acid modifications, cell biology and immunology are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent and have no more than two years of post-doctoral experience. Successful applicants should have a strong background in gene regulation and RNA biology.
The Center for Cancer Research (CCR) is the intramural research component of the NCI. CCR’s enabling infrastructure facilitates clinical studies at the NIH Clinical Center, provides extensive opportunities for collaboration, and allows scientists and clinicians to undertake high-risk, high-impact laboratory and clinically based investigations. Investigators are supported by a wide array of intellectual, technological and research resources including, animal facilities and dedicated, high-quality technology cores in areas such as imaging/microscopy, chemistry/purification, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, genomics/DNA sequencing, transgenics and knockout mice, arrays/molecular profiling, and human genetics/bioinformatics. For an overview of CCR, please visit http://ccr.cancer.gov/ .
Interested individuals should send a curriculum vitae and bibliography, a brief summary of research interests and accomplishments, scientific experience, and the names and addresses of three references to: Dr. Shalini Oberdoerffer, Senior Investigator, LRBGE, National Cancer Institute, E-mail: [email protected] .
