Position Overview

The Britt Lab at the University of Kansas Medical Center has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral researcher position. The postdoctoral researcher will have opportunities to work on research frontiers in precision medicine and data science in the fields of infectious diseases and pulmonary/critical care medicine. These include, but are not limited to, identifying novel biomarkers for sepsis due to multidrug-resistant bacterial infections, deep immunophenotyping of patients with sepsis, and evaluation of host-directed immunotherapeutic treatments for multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. The postdoctoral training will provide specialized skills in bioinformatics and data science to incorporate advanced high-dimensional analysis and machine learning algorithms to prediction of outcomes in patients with severe infection and sepsis. Additionally, training will involve implementation of novel high-throughput technologies into collaborative, multi-site clinical studies.

Primary responsibilities will include contributing to study design, blood sample processing and biobanking, cell culture (mammalian cell and bacterial), and pharmacodynamic/pharmacokinetic analyses. Additional opportunities for analysis of high-dimensional data (e.g., RNA-seq, proteomics, flow cytometry), statistical modeling, and manuscript/grant writing are available. The candidate will work in a highly collaborative and productive environment, which provides unique training opportunities from leading faculty members in infectious diseases, pulmonary and critical care medicine, immunology, and bioinformatics.

Dr. Britt and his lab work at the interface of microbiology, immunology, and systems biology/epidemiology to discover novel therapeutic strategies for the management of “superbug” infections, using in vitro, ex vivo, and computational approaches. His group has published award-winning research in leading journals in the field, including Clinical Infectious Diseases, Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, and Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (https://brittlab.com/publications/ ) .The position is funded through the University of Kansas, School of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice at the KU Medical campus (KUMC) in Kansas City, Kansas.
