Position Summary:
The Villanova Center for Resilient Water Systems (VCRWS) is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral researcher to participate on exciting projects focusing on the environmental aspects of stormwater green infrastructure, as well as perform research . This position directs the operations of the Water Resources Research Lab within the Center for Resilient Water Systems (VCRWS). The Position directly supervises undergraduate student workers as well as serves as a team lead for the graduate students who conduct stormwater sampling. Regularly and proactively trains students in lab tasks and safety procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will aid in research activities related to the Villanova Center for Resilient Water Systems research. Individual will be responsible for all nutrient and metals analytical testing, works with PIs to conduct quality control on data, and maintains data records. Individual ensures that all data is collected with scientific integrity and meets the quality control guidance outlined in the Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Additionally, the individual will work with existing field, laboratory, and model projects to execute new methods and analysis.
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have:
  • a Ph.D. degree in water resources engineering, civil and/or environmental engineering or closely related field
  • good organizational and communication skills
  • the ability to work independently and communicate proactively

The individual must be highly motivated with strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with analytical problem solving, creative process design, as well as good oral and written communication skills are preferred. Individual must be willing to work closely with Dr. Traver and Dr. Wadzuk as well as with undergraduate and graduate students. The individual is expected to actively pursue high quality publications and participate in generating new ideas and writing technical proposals.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
Physical requirements include the ability to travel and work on field sites, to stand for several hours at a time, and to lift objects greater than 50 lbs. Individuals must be willing to work outside standard office hours as demands of the job dictate.
Special Message to Applicants:
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department has excellent infrastructure to support scholarship, including fluids, water resources, soils, environmental, and structural laboratories, computational research facilities along with the Stormwater Green Infrastructure Research and Demonstration Park. Additionally, a large expansion to the College of Engineering Center for Engineering Education and Research building is underway that will provide new undergraduate and research laboratories more than doubling the current research space.. This position is contingent upon VCRWS research grants and resources.
