Position Summary:
Villanova University has a postdoctoral researcher position available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Wenqing Xu.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will conduct research on a multidisciplinary research project to understand the adsorption and transformation of nitrogenous organic contaminants on the surfaces of pyrogenic carbonaceous materials (eg., activated carbon and biochar). The candidate will have opportunities to interact with collaborators from other academic institutions, state, and federal agencies. The candidate will also be expected to assist in the training and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, assisting with the preparation of project reports, and disseminating results in journal publications and conferences. Teaching opportunities can be arranged if the candidate desires.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must have:
  • a Ph.D. degree in environmental chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, polymer engineering, or related fields;
  • experience in using analytical instruments (IC, UPLC, GC/MS/MS and Q-TOF-MS);
  • experience in material synthesis, surface functionalization, and characterization (FT-IR, XPS, TEM);
  • a strong track record of refereed journal publications; and
  • the ability to work independently and communicate proactively.
  • The individual must be highly motivated with strong written and oral communication skills.
