Description

 

The Department of Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity at the University of Chicago is accepting applications for a non-renewable, two-year Postdoctoral Researcher at the rank of Instructor in Black and/or Urban Studies. This NEH funded position is part of the Oak Woods Project, a collaborative, interdisciplinary initiative centered on a historic cemetery located in Woodlawn, Chicago. The successful candidate will: teach one course a year that will be cross-listed in RDI and the Chicago Studies program at the University; will help develop a partnership with CPS as part of the project; it is expected that they will participate in the intellectual life of RDI; and, they may, if they so choose, participate in future grant applications to extend and expand the project.  If the candidate wishes to teach a second course, of their design and choosing, that will be possible.

 


Qualifications

 

Candidates must have a PhD (in hand by September 15, 2024) in a relevant field including, but not limited to: Black Studies, Diaspora Studies, Urban Studies, American Studies, Public History, Anthropology, Sociology, English, Geography, or History. Candidates with experience with, or interest in, public history and public education collaborations are preferred.
