Position Summary
Postdoctoral position in Exoplanetary Science
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Department of Astronomy at Indiana University, Bloomington to work in the group of Prof. Cristobal Petrovich and conduct research on the general areas of planet formation and dynamics, exoplanets, and/or stellar dynamics. The successful candidate is encouraged to develop their own research project within this general framework.
Depending upon the applicant’s research interests and qualifications, possible research topics may include, but are not limited to: (1) planetary orbital dynamics using analytic and numerical methods, (2) hydrodynamical simulations of protoplanetary disks, (3) exoplanet architectures using statistical methods and radial velocity campaigns, and (4) evolution of planetary systems in multiple stellar systems.
The successful applicant will have access to the outstanding IU information technology infrastructure, including full access to various supercomputers and massive data storage systems (see here for further details https://uits.iu.edu/services/technology-for-research/high-performance-computing-and-storage ). They will also have access to the NEID high-precision radial velocity spectrometer at the 3.5-meter WIYN telescope.
The postdoctoral appointment will be for three years. Start date is expected to be August 2024 but is negotiable.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, Planetary Science or a closely related field by the position start date.
