Description of Work Unit

The NREL is a research and teaching unit at Colorado State University with a mission “to ensure the sustainability of the Earth’s ecosystems through the generation and application of new knowledge.” The department’s interdisciplinary, ecosystem research promotes collaborations among disciplines and across fields of expertise at CSU and throughout the world. As a soft-money research unit, this role is critical to ensure adequate funding to sustain its vital role in the research community both locally and across the globe.
Position Summary
The Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory seeks a postdoctoral researcher in the field of analytical chemistry to work as part of a larger team on several related projects intended to better understand the metabolism of decomposition resistant molecules in the environment. The postdoc will contribute to experimental design, implementation, analysis, and writing. This position will offer ample opportunities for collaboration and professional development and networking.
This is an open pool posting and applicants will be reviewed as positions become available.This position is initially for one year with the potential for renewal based on performance and availability of funding.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Candidates must have completed Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Soil Science, Biogeochemistry or a related field by the position start date
  • Relevant research in molecular analysis
  • Additional required qualification and salary determined by the specific position to be filled
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with molecular characterization using mass spectrometry (MS) and/or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and/or other advanced analytical chemistry techniques
  • Demonstrated potential for independent thought, experimental design, and research
  • Excellent work ethic, ability to work independently and in a team
  • Strong writing abilities and demonstrated ability to synthesize information and publish in peer-reviewed journals
