Primary Project (NIH/NIA RF1AG054070): The Offspring Study of Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Alzheimer’s Disease

Responsibilities

The postdoctoral scientist will conduct research with several large-scale projects among ethnically and educationally diverse people taking a multidisciplinary approach to understanding disparities in cognitive aging and Alzheimer’s disease.

The selected candidate will work on projects focused on the biological and social determinants of late-life brain health of aging Hispanic/Latino/Latinx adults such as understanding how immigration, literacy, bilingualism, among other factors impact late life cognitive functioning.

Research projects will take place in close collaboration with faculty in the Cognitive Neuroscience Division within the Department of Neurology. The fellow will have access to several community-based and epidemiological studies of cognitive aging such as The Offspring Study of Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Alzheimer’s Disease.

The fellow will help with the analyses of existing data in order to begin to develop an independent line of research. The fellow will be exposed to various training opportunities related to the development and retention of a linguistically and socioculturally diverse community cohort for studies on disparities and cognitive aging. Duties include data collection and analysis, publishing peer-review manuscripts, participating in seminars, work groups, community outreach activities, collaborating on research grant applications, training and certifying study staff in neuropsychological testing, attending neuropsychological supervision of cases seen in the department’s neuropsychology service, and administering neuropsychological tests. The fellow will be expected to apply modern data analytic approaches, write manuscripts, and grant proposals, and participate in a productive research team.
