Postdoctoral Research Position in Supernova Cosmology

The Department of Astronomy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications from Ph.D. scientists for postdoctoral position working on supernova cosmology with the Young Supernovae Experiment (YSE) and the LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration (DESC) The position is full-time for 3 years and offers a competitive salary, benefits, and research funds, with the possibility of further extension. The proposed starting date is August 16, 2024, although this is flexible. We encourage candidates with broad interests in survey science, time-domain astrophysics, cosmology, and artificial intelligence. Prior experience with supernova surveys is NOT required. The researcher will work with Prof. Gautham Narayan and his research group, the Champaign Supernova Team, and other scientists in YSE and DESC.

The selected candidate will also be part of the Center for Astrophysical Surveys (CAPS) and will have access to facilities and data at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications. NCSA is a hub of transdisciplinary research and digital scholarship where University of Illinois faculty, staff, and students, and collaborators from around the globe, unite to address research grand challenges for the benefit of science and society.
