Postdoctoral Research Fellow - (210000EE)

NIH/NCI T32 Postdoctoral Fellowship Position in Focused Ultrasound Neuro-interventions at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD

The Translational Therapeutics Research Group (TTRG), a multi-disciplinary research team of engineers, cancer biologists, and clinician-scientists, is seeking a highly-motivated early-career scientist interested in postdoctoral research training in advanced brain tumor modelling and applied image-guided neuro-interventions (focused ultrasound, interstitial and targeted brain delivery, neuro-gene editing, localized drug release) [http://www.ttrg-umm.org ].

Job Description

The TTRG is centrally located within the University of Maryland Health Sciences research complex in downtown Baltimore, which is well situated within the Baltimore-DC research corridor. The TTRG laboratory and clinical training environments provide exposure to bench-to-bedside investigations, faithful pre-clinical models and patient studies, and cutting edge pre-clinical and clinical focused ultrasound systems. The research team has active collaborations with leading scientists and clinicians at Johns Hopkins University, Harvard University, University of Washington, and multiple other academic and industry partners. The postdoctoral scholar will be expected to help coordinate and enhance these collaborations and partnerships. Accordingly, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated strong laboratory leadership and team-building skills, and have a track record of sound experimental design, high-impact publication, and independent study. Prior experience in focused ultrasound techniques, mammalian brain tumor models, advanced microscopy, cancer biology techniques, and general animal handling are desirable.

The Postdoctoral Fellow position will be funded for up to 3 years through the NIH T32 Training Grant in Cancer Biology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Training opportunities will also include structured grant writing, journal review, and early commercialization projects. This position is available beginning on June 1, 2021 and includes a competitive salary and yearly appointment renewal based on performance reviews. For guidelines on NIH T32 grant eligibility please use this link: https://researchtraining.nih.gov/programs/training-grants/T32

Current active and extramurally funded projects include:

  • Evaluating blood-brain barrier disruption for enhanced therapeutic delivery and liquid biopsy of intrinsic brain tumors

  • Examining the role of acoustic priming of brain tumors for enhanced delivery and treatment including, nano-therapeutics, immunotherapies, and radiation therapy

  • Investigating mechano-biological mechanisms of ultrasound-mediated blood-brain barrier disruption
