Postdoctoral Research Fellow-Surgery

A postdoctoral scholar "postdoc" is an individual holding a doctoral degree who is engaged in a temporary and defined period, typically less than 5 years, of mentored research and/or advanced scholarly training for the purpose of acquiring the professional skills needed to pursue a career path of his/her choosing. Performs research under the supervision and mentorship of a more senior researcher, often called the postdoctoral advisor.
This position will support two areas Department of Surgery and Clinicial & Translational Science. This role will identify novel pathways or biomarkers related to the development of hernias as well as better elucidate the pathophysiology that leads to abdominal wall defects. Perform translational and clinical studies to better define current treatment algorithms, and improve outcomes for patients with various types of hernias. Receive mentoring opportunities while authoring and publishing research articles to various peer reviewed journals as well as applying for grants that further research in the field.
**Please note, this position will require working with swine ranging in weight from 18 to 220 lbs. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation and in some instances 75 lbs.  
-PhD in biochemistry, anatomy, molecular biology or physiology, or an MD.
-1-3 years' experience  
*Depending upon research needs position may require evening, holiday, and weekend work.
