Postdoctoral Research Fellow- Physics

The George Mason University Department of Physics and Astronomy, within the College of Science, invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a Postdoctoral Fellow position. The Center for Computational Fluid Dynamics in the Department of of Physics and Astronomy is seeking a qualified Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a new effort in the field of multi-scale high-yield blast physics. The responsibilities will include:

  • Development, modification and application of large-scale, production codes to multi-scale high-yield blast physics problems;
  • Running large-scale problems on super computing platforms;
  • Interaction with several national teams working on this project;
  • Attendance of meetings with the aim of briefing other groups and progress and developments; and
  • Independent compilation of data, results of runs, and writing of progress reports and publications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed a PhD in the field of physics or aerospace engineering prior to the first date of the appointment;
  • Demonstrated working and authorship (i.e. code-writing) experience with large-scale computational fluid dynamics codes;
  • Solid knowledge of shock physics;
  • Knowledge of the FORTRAN and C programming languages;
  • Knowledge and experience with high performance computing platforms; and
  • US citizenship required in order to be eligible to access secure data and systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate with a multidisciplinary team;
  • Experience in managing and reporting on large data sets; and
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
