Position Summary
The Department of Oral Pathology, Medicine and Radiology at the Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD) is seeking qualified applicants for a postdoctoral research fellow position. Our Salivary Diagnostics Laboratory at the Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD) has an immediate opening for a highly motivated individual to participate in biomarker discovery and identification in autoimmune diseases.
A predominant goal of the research program is to identify biomarkers for early identification of Sjogren’s disease, a complex autoimmune disease with a multi-year clinicopathological course. In addition to working in our salivary analysis and diagnostics research laboratory, the selected candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of investigators in health informatics, clinical and basic research, oral medicine and “omics” cores. The position will entail a 90% research focus, with the remaining 10% dedicated to education and training of students. The initial appointment will be for one year starting on or about June 1, 2024, with potential for renewal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Processing of saliva for proteomics and molecular analysis, initially with supervision and then progressively towards independent work.
These experiments will include but are not limited to:
  • Saliva preparation for proteomics and genomics.
  • Perform conventional proteomics, bioinformatic analysis and interpretation.
  • RT-PCR, immunoblots, immunoprecipitation, kinase activity assays.
  • Flow cytometry.
  • Mammalian cell culture.
  • Accurately document research findings for use in scientific publications and grant submission.
  • Participate in writing scientific publications and grant submissions.
  • Participate in research group meetings.

In addition, the successful candidate is expected to (1) have excellent communication/writing skills in English, (2) be a team player who appreciates working closely and collaboratively with others in the group, and (3) collaborate in various translational research related projects and participate in writing grants and manuscripts.

Basic Qualifications

  •  a PhD degree in biochemistry/oral biology/ molecular biology, or a closely related field. 
  • a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Additional Qualifications
Salary and Rank This is a research rank position. It has a salary range of $50,000 - $60,000/year. Pay equity standards will be upheld.
