About the Opportunity


Postdoctoral Research Fellow – AR/VR, The Roux Institute – Portland, Maine

We seek a postdoctoral research fellow with interest and experience in AR/VR research to join our multidisciplinary HCI/DataVis research team. Our greater focus is on data visualization and visual analytics for Engineering and Biomedicine applications, and we are expanding into the AR/VR space. Successful candidates will emphasize experience applying knowledge from the fields of perceptual psychology and/or HCI/UX to AR/VR applications. Northeastern’s Roux Institute offers an academic research environment combined with access to end-users who bring real-world problems in the fields of Biology, Health, and Engineering. An effective research program will execute use-inspired discovery with an entrepreneurial mindset that develops science and solutions that matter to society and impact the Maine economy. Postdocs will receive formal and structured mentoring on topics including mentor/mentee research relationship, technology transfer, and proposal development.

Responsibilities:

This fellow will have opportunities to collaborate on existing projects and develop new opportunities with Roux Industry Partners and federal grant opportunities. There will also be opportunities to mentor junior team members and provide educational support across the Roux Institute. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AR/VR research, design, and evaluation for real world applications and possess an entrepreneurial mindset. As an individual contributor to the Roux’s HCI/DataVis mission, the Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for executing and developing a research portfolio with meaningful engagement of partner organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Design, Information Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or related fields;
  • Strong research experience and publication record in visualization or visual analytics.
  • Visualization design, prototyping, and evaluation skills. Strong programming skills and experience with visualization specific development toolkits preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary research teams and build long-term relationships with research partners.
  • Excellent communication skills across diverse audiences and settings.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and innovative setting.
