Postdoctoral Researcher in Digital History
The Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on Tropy (https://tropy.org ), a grant-funded research project sponsored by the Mellon Foundation. Operating since 2015, Tropy is a multi-year international research project which has developed a widely used free and open-source software application for archival research. In order to promote the use of Tropy and improve Tropy’s support of varying types of users. We seek to hire a postdoctoral researcher to join our small outreach and development team who will work under the supervision of the project’s principal investigator and his team based at the University of Luxembourg’s Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH).

Responsibilities:

The person hired into this full time position will develop training modules around the use of Tropy by researchers, archivists, and librarians of varying skill levels; will gather feedback from Tropy users (and prospective users) on researcher needs; will work to develop and execute an outreach plan in coordination with the project PI in Luxembourg; and will be responsible for Tropy outreach outside of Europe to be conducted virtually and on-site in coordination with the Luxembourg-based PI.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates for this position must have a PhD in history or a related field; must be passionate about using technology to conduct historical research; must have experience working in physical or digital archives; and must have an interest or experience in outreach and public speaking.
Preferred Qualifications:

Additional preferred qualifications include:
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish; and
  • Research experience relating to Latin America.
