Position Summary
The Imaging Center houses state-of-the-art imaging equipment and provides extensive imaging service, and directs innovative imaging research programs.  The human imaging facility is equipped with 3T and 7T MRI, PET/CT, and PET/MRI to facilitate translational imaging research. The image analysis core provides post-processing and statistical analysis specifically tailored to the needs of individual projects. The small animal imaging facility is equipped with PET/CT, SPECT/CT, optical, ultrasound, and high-resolution CT imaging. It provides comprehensive imaging service to more than 70 investigators from UNC, regional institutions, and industrial scientists.  Various imaging projects are currently undertaken using imaging technique to tackle biomedical problems.

Successful candidate is expected to join an ongoing project focusing on molecular imaging in animal models of Alzheimer disease (AD).  The project includes studies to evaluate several PET imaging probes targeting aberrant cyclin-dependent kinase 5 and neuroinflammation during the onset of AD and following progression, to identify promising imaging methods for early detection of AD, and to propose imaging methods for predicting treatment outcome in AD management.  The candidate is also encouraged to participate in other projects including brain tumor imaging with multi-modality imaging, imaging-guided treatment in brain tumor and drug delivery in animal models of Parkinson disease.  The candidate is expected to publish the results of his or her research during the period of the appointment.
