Position Details:


Summary of Duties:

Develop an analytical strategy to characterize pyrolysis oils (monomeric and oligomeric fractions) and a methodology to describe pyrolysis oils in terms of a finite number of chemical compounds. Use that methodology to analyze pyrolysis oils. Propose new structures to unknown pyrolysis oil oligomeric fractions and estimate their chemical properties. Work on the creation of databases with the properties of pyrolysis oil compounds. Use the bio-oil description and the data base to estimate the physico-chemical properties of pyrolysis oils.


Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, or related fields.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Capacity to use Density Functional Theory and/or Molecular dynamic calculations to study complex liquids.  

  • Capacity to program in Pyton

  • Expertise in the use of advanced spectroscopy tools (example, NMR, FTIR, FT-ICR-MS) for the analysis of pyrolysis oils and its oligomeric fractions

Annual Salary:

$55,000.00 - $68,000.00


In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
