Summary of Duties:
Working under the supervision of the Principal Investigators, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will work towards greater inclusion of lentils into wheat-based foods. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will apply techniques such as protein isolation and functionality testing, genome-wide association mapping, metabolic pathway analysis, and end-use quality testing. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will analyze results, publish research, and leverage research findings into further funding.
Key Responsibilities:
Isolate protein from lentil accessions
Characterize protein isolates for functionality
Identify lentil accessions of particular interest
Identify the genes of interest associated with different protein isolate quality traits and markers linked to these genes for future marker assisted selection
Select protein isolates to blend with wheat flour and perform flour, rheology, and dough tests on the blends
Study the biochemical pathway underlying the genes of interest
Upload genotypic and phenotypic data associated with each lentil accession into the GrinGlobal database for users to use in deciding what accessions to request
Required Qualifications:
A Ph.D in Genetics, Plant Physiology, Biochemistry, or Agronomy or related field.
Familiarity with R.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with lentils and wheat.
Experience in plant genetics, specifically genome-wide association studies and DNA marker design
Understanding of food end-use quality
Experience in seed physiology

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
