Position Summary
The Michael Love and Karen Mohlke labs, within the UNC-Chapel Hill Biostatistics and Genetics Departments, seek a candidate for Postdoctoral Research Fellow with a background in Computational Biology or a related field. The individual will be responsible for integrative analysis of large-scale omics experiments to interrogate causal mechanisms of common human diseases and traits, focused on cardiometabolic and neuropsychiatric disorders. We have expertise in generation and analysis of large-scale genetic, genomic, and clinical data, including genome-wide association study signals, bulk and single cell transcriptomic and epigenomic data, and large-scale results of assays of variant and gene function. The successful candidate will join a vibrant group of scientists working on a wide range of independent and collaborative projects. We provide a collegial, supportive mentoring environment. Training includes an option for leading development of statistical methods and software, with mentorship and supervision from Dr. Love.  We are committed to mentoring postdoctoral scientists toward independence and successful careers.

Potential projects include:
  • Identification of expression and chromatin accessibility QTL in disease-relevant systems at bulk tissue and/or single cell resolution.
  • Multi-assay, multi-context causal effect estimation, including colocalization and Mendelian Randomization, across systems (organs, tissues, and cell types) and human traits/diseases.
  • Integration of multi-omics and cross-tissue QTL with in vitro and in vivo assays targeting variants (MPRA) and elements (CRISPR a/i).
Educational Requirements
PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics/Statistics, Genetics, or a related field
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will be an individual who is highly motivated by team science and who will work closely with experimentalists, in two-way communication between “wet-lab” and “dry-lab” biologists. The position will suit someone with a Computational Biology/Bioinformatics or Statistical Genetics background. The candidate should have experience analyzing functional genomic datasets (expression, chromatin accessibility, etc.) and ideally also in development of computational or statistical methods. Experience with releasing open source software (e.g. R or python packages for genomic data analysis) is a plus, but not required.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, race, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or status as a protected veteran.
