Position Summary
The UNC Microbiome Core is searching for a talented and motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate. The successfully selected candidate will design, conduct, analyze, and interpret laboratory-based research to understand how probiotics and prebiotics impact the gut microbiome and intestinal homeostasis. He or she will lead and contribute to impactful scientific manuscripts. He or she will perform research using state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for microbiology, molecular biology, and genomics in a professional environment with excellent technical support and will process samples for metagenomics sequencing and bioinformatics analysis.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Ph.D. degree in microbiology, ecology, molecular biology, or related fields.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Demonstrated expertise in modern molecular ecology methods including metagenomic analyses, quantitative PCR, and rRNA community sequence analyses. 
Familiarity with software tools for next generation DNA sequence analysis of rRNA and metagenomic microbial datasets.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
A history of collaborative, integrative, and creative research in microbiology or microbial ecology.
Motivated and able to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams.
