Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
UNC’s Mathematics department includes extensive experimental and computational facilities and provides the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment within a wide range of groups in Applied Mathematics (https://amath.unc.edu). Collaborations are also frequent with other groups in different departments, including Applied Physical Sciences, Bioengineering, Marine Science, and Biology, bringing together diverse skillsets. The postdoctoral fellow will benefit from working in The Research Triangle, one of the most prominent high-tech research and development areas in the US with three Tier-1 research universities. The RDU international airport, just 20 minutes from campus, serves most US cities, as well as several European cities with direct flights.
Position Summary
A full-time postdoctoral research position is currently available at the Physical Mathematics Lab (https://www.pml.unc.edu), led by Dr. Pedro S enz at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Applications are invited from highly motivated candidates with demonstrated expertise in wet lab experimentation at the intersection of fluid mechanics and soft matter, and interest in conducting research on walking droplets, vibrating bubbles, active waves, or related subjects. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in supervising graduate and undergraduate students,and fostering collaborations within UNC and beyond. The position offers additional opportunities for professional development, including teaching responsibilities and participation in securing funding for research.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
A Ph.D. in physics, engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field is required at the time of the appointment.
