Position Summary

The Division of Gastroenterology, University of Nebraska Medical Center (Omaha), seeks postdoctoral research associate, with degree in biochemistry, physiology or related field and experience in animal experiments and cell culture work, Western blot analysis, HPLC, LC/MS, proteomic analysis, lipidomics, microscopy and other procedures.
Successful applicant’s work will include characterization of the changes in lipid droplets in the liver that facilitate accumulation during the development of alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases and prevention by betaine treatment. Using pharmacological and genetic approaches, studies will be carried out in both animal (rat and mice) and cell culture models – to study the link between methylation defects and the biochemical and functional changes in the lipid droplets in the liver and adipose tissue after alcohol or high-caloric intake. Work will include collection, analysis and interpretation of data, presentation at national meetings, manuscript preparation and grant writing.
Successful candidate will have first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals and the ability to write research papers. Successful candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and image and statistical analysis software is required.

Required Qualifications

Degree in biochemistry, physiology or related field.

Supplemental Qualifications

Experience in animal experiments and cell culture work, Western blot analysis, HPLC, LC/MS, proteomic analysis, lipidomics, and microscopy.
