Position Summary
The Department of Neurosurgery seeks a postdoctoral research associate for the lab of Stephen Gliske, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Neurosurgery, University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Gliske’s research group focuses on developing translational electrophysiology biomarkers using advanced statistical analysis of human data (intracranial EEG, microelectrode EEG, scape EEG, and MEG) with application areas of epilepsy, movement disorders, and sleep. Major projects include developing and translating biomarkers of seizure and eloquent cortex networks, analysis of microelectrode data recorded during implantation of deep brain stimulation electrodes, and projects involving intersection between sleep, electrophysiology and pathology. The specific projects assigned to the hired individual will be determined based on their background and interest and current needs in the lab. The ideal candidate will be seeking a career at the intersection of translational neuroscience, scientific computing and data science.
The Department of Neurosurgery is comprised of eleven faculty members and has numerous close associations with other clinical and basis science departments. Specialized services and expertise are offered in areas of functional and stereotactic neurosurgery, endovascular and cerebrovascular neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, complex spine and deformities, and surgical spine oncology.
As Nebraska’s only public academic health sciences center, UNMC is committed to the education of a 21st century health care workforce, to finding cures and treatments for disease, providing the best care for patients, and to serve Nebraska and its communities through award-winning outreach.
Required qualifications include PhD in relevant field (applied math, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, physics, or other related field). Successful candidates for the role will have experience in data recording, curation, and analysis; be fluent in at least one programming/scripting language; and have advanced mathematical skills. Preference shall be given to candidates with significant experience analyzing EEG or MEG data; fluency in multiple programming language; and/or expertise in multivariate calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics, and machine learning. Also preferred are excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills, the ability to run experiments independently, to analyze data and to plan future research direction, combined with excellent team skills. We seek a highly self-motivated, inquisitive scientist, with a track-record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
