Position Qualification


Position Summary
The Department of Neurological Sciences at the University of Nebraska Medical
Center (UNMC) seeks a post-doctoral research associate that will work in the
laboratory of Dr. David E. Warren (principal investigator/PI) with the PI and his
research team to plan, develop, implement, and conduct research projects at UNMC.
This includes ongoing NIH-funded research in developmental, aging, and
neurological populations including healthy children, healthy older adults, and patients
on the Alzheimer’s disease continuum. The PI’s lab uses cognitive neuroscience
techniques including cognitive assessment, neuropsychology, psychophysical
testing, eye-movement monitoring, structural and functional magnetic resonance
imaging, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and genomic assays. Duties involve
research study design, participant recruitment, data collection, data analyses, and
preparation of scholarly products. Scholarly products will include peer-reviewed
publications, conference abstracts, extramural grant applications, progress reports,
intramural institutional review board protocols, and other compliance reports as
directed. Finally, the post-doc will also work as directed with collaborators at UNMC
and other institutions. Postdoctoral research associate will be expected to have
strong scientific writing skills and excellent communication skills, good early track
record of submitted or published peer-reviewed articles, exceptional organizational
skills, ability to work as a team member, ability to advise and supervise more junior
laboratory personnel, familiarity with standard office productivity software (e.g., MS
Office), and ability to operate standard office equipment (copy machine, fax machine,
multi-line phone).

Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in an appropriate scientific field (e.g., psychology, neuroscience,
bioinformatics)
Supplemental Qualifications
1. Proficiency in: experimental design, study implementation, and advanced applied
statistics.
2. Experience with methods including: structural and functional magnetic resonance
imaging, eye-tracking, transcranial magnetic stimulation, genetic/genomic analyses,
and/or other cognitive neuroscience techniques
3. Experience with populations including: typically-developing children and
adolescents, healthy older adults, and/or neurological patients including individuals
on the Alzheimer’s disease continuum.
4. Experience with UNIX-like and Windows operating systems.
5. Experience with programming in languages including Python, R, Julia, MATLAB,
C, C++, etc.
6. Experience with development, implementation, and management of
clinical/translational research protocols.
7. Broad technical competence; for example, capacity to troubleshoot specialized lab
equipment in consultation with vendors.
