The Larson Lab at the University of Denver is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in evolutionary genomics. This position requires a PhD in genetics or evolutionary biology, a demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment.

Position Summary

The Larson Lab at the University of Denver is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in evolutionary genomics with expertise in sexual selection, genome evolution, and speciation. This position requires a PhD in genetics or evolutionary biology. The preferred candidate will have expertise in generating and analyzing genomic data (WGS and RNAseq) and experience in animal care. The preferred candidate will also have a track record of mentoring and training undergraduates and a strong background in genetics. The ability and desire to work both independently and collaboratively with other members of the lab is critical to the success of this position. The initial hire is for 1 year with the possibility of an additional year, pending satisfactory progress. The start date is September 1, 2022.

Essential Functions

In addition to following the University of Denver policies and procedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to: generating and analyzing genomic datasets, project coordination, training and supervising other personnel and disseminating results through publication and conference presentations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

This position requires a demonstrated ability to publish quality scientific papers and good communication and writing skills. The preferred candidate will have expertise in sexual selection, genome evolution and speciation.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in genetics, evolutionary biology or related field prior to the start date.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in animal care.
  • Experience in generating and analyzing genomic data.
  • Strong background in genetics and evolutionary biology with expertise in sex chromosome evolution.
  • Experience in analyzing gene expression data particularly gene expression networks.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 8.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $53,760- $60,780.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
