Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Food Science at the University of Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station is seeking a highly motivated and outstanding postdoctoral research to work in the Phytochemical program of Dr. Sun-Ok Lee, Dr. Renee Threlfall, and Dr. Ya-Jane Wang. The candidate will work on the identification/purification of phytochemicals and their potential health benefits.
Responsibilities:
Conduct and assist with research on compositional and bioactive compounds (acids, sugars, ethanol, volatiles, polyphenols) in foods and beverages (especially fruit, wine/juice, vegetables, and rice)
Supervise laboratories including maintaining equipment, ordering supplies, establishing safety practices, creating the standard operating procedures, and training students for analysis.
Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, present data at professional conferences, and help write grants/reports.

Qualifications:

The candidate should have (i) a Ph.D. degree in Food Science, Food Chemistry, Nutritional Biochemistry or a related field, (ii) strong research experience in compositional or bioactive compounds in foods and and beverages (iii) publications in high-quality journals, and (iv) good communication skills both in writing and speaking.

The selected candidate must be able to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team. Candidates should have additional experience in extraction and analysis of compositional and bioactive compounds, implementing mammalian cell culture/molecular biological skills, and use of HPLC, GC-MS, and UPLC.


Additional Information:

The initial appointment is for one year with a possibility of renewal upon the availability of subsequent funding and job performance.
