JOB SUMMARY

The Chemistry Department, in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Research Associate with a background in synthetic organic, inorganic, organometallic chemistry. The incumbent will aid in the development of complexes emitting circularly polarized luminescence, and catalytic radical cross-coupling reactions. The project will be carried out at the University of Connecticut under Dr. Gaël Ung’s supervision.

The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and gain in-depth knowledge of the research frontiers in the fields of autonomous discovery and synthesis. They will also have the opportunity to be a part of a world-class scientific team and involved in vigorous research programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Synthesis and characterization of complexes.
  • Evaluating catalytic reactions.
  • Participating in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and upgrading, and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Mentor/train graduate and undergraduate students

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. or equivalent, with a background in organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and/or organometallic chemistry.
  • Experience with inert synthetic techniques.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with photophysical studies.
  • Experience with mentoring.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

The start date for this position is Fall 2022 and the initial appointment will be for one year and is potentially renewable for a second year depending on regular progress evaluation. Continuation beyond two years is contingent upon future external funding applications. The position is full-time, salary will follow NIH guidelines.
