Job Summary:

This is the entry level of professional work in an engineering or scientific discipline. Incumbents perform routine scientific or engineering work, evaluating, selecting and applying standardized scientific or engineering procedures and techniques to assignments with clear, specific objectives. Assignments require investigation of a limited number of variables and few complex features. This position requires extensive laboratory binder and mixture testing, data analysis, report writing, and field traveling around Texas. Continuation in this position is contingent upon availability of funding derived from research program or specific projects.

Essential Duties:

  • Perform regular and advanced laboratory binder rheological and chemical tests and asphalt mix performance tests.

  • Conduct data analysis.

  • Write and prepare reports.

  • Pavement conditioning and performance surveys.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  • PhD in Civil Engineering.

  • No prior experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with DSR, BBR, RTFO, PAV, and viscosity

  • Experience with XRF, GPC, DSC, and FTIR testing

  • Experience with asphalt mixture cracking, rutting, moisture damage, and raveling tests

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Asphalt Binder Rheology/Chemistry and Superpave Mixture Design.

  • Experience in computational mechanics (finite element, boundary element, discrete element) and applied mathematics required

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift very heavy materials.

  • Ability to perform common office functions.

  • Ability to frequently communicate with other individuals within the workplace.

  • Ability to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
